SUPERYACHTS

Phuket, long established as Thailand's premier yachting centre, is the first port of call for Superyachts wanting to experience the breathtaking, remote cruising grounds of the Andaman Sea.

Pristine islands, world-class diving and quiet anchorages are all commonplace in Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and the Andaman Islands of India. This culturally fascinating region also provides great cruising in a safe and friendly environment.

The cruising season around Phuket is generally between October and April and at this time of year you can expect endless days of blue sky and favourable northeast winds. Areas such as Phang Nga Bay, which offers over 100 islands to explore, provides all year round sheltered cruising.

Formalities for entering these countries can sometimes be quite time consuming. Myanmar requires a permit before entering its waters is allowed and boats entering the Andaman Islands should expect a lengthy bureaucratic check-in process. It is advisable for superyachts to seek the expertise of an agency to help with these procedures.

Phuket provides world class marina services for superyachts with berths for up to 50m, conveniently located 15 minutes from the international airport at the Yacht Haven Marina. Phuket Boat Lagoon, situated midway along Phuket's east coast, also accommodates yachts up to 35m in length. Many of the major marine brands are represented on the island. Phuket offers a variety of qualified industry professionals who provide a high level of service and the island also boasts a slipway offering full repair and maintenance services for vessels up to 35 metres in length and 8m beam. Wavemaster in Langkawi also offer a full superyacht and megayacht refit and repair facility in nearby Malaysia.

Fuel and water are both available from the Yacht Haven Marina in Phuket and for your convenience, a superyacht agent can also organise a barge to meet your yacht anywhere around Phuket. It is advisable to top up on both fuel and water before heading up to Myanmar.

Provisioning for superyachts in Phuket is a simple task thanks to the ready availability of high quality produce grown both locally and imported from overseas. Fresh food markets throughout Phuket provide an abundance of exotic fruits and vegetables from which to choose. Phuket also has fine wines, meats, cheeses and other imported delicacies available. English-speaking guides can escort your chef to the markets in search of the freshest produce and the superyacht agents offer a full provisioning service.

The Andaman Sea is fast becoming one of the world's premier destinations for superyacht charter and a number of high quality vessels are now offered for charter in the area. Take advantage of this situation by contacting one of the charter agencies available in Phuket who can promote your vessel for charter prior to your arrival in Thailand.

Phuket is home to a variety of rallies and regattas held throughout the year. The famous King's Cup Regatta, now in its 18th year, along with the Phuket Invitational which caters to Superyachts, are both held in the month of December. The Andaman Sea Rally which sees boats competing between Phuket and Port Blair in the Andaman Islands, is fast becoming an event not to be missed; this is held in the first week of January each year. For more events, see the Calendar Of Festivals And Events.
